Leftist nuns' group opposes challenges to HHS mandate

March 17, 2014

The National Coalition of American Nuns (NCAN), a Detroit-based group that claims to represent several hundred women religious, has criticized Catholic organizations that are opposing the implementation of the contraceptive mandate in President Obama’s health-care program.

Sister Donna Quinn, the leader of NCAN, said that legal challenges to the mandate brought by groups like the Little Sisters of the Poor would create a situation in which “a woman can be held hostage by the owner of a business,” because she would not have access to contraceptives subsidized by her health-care plan. Quinn—whose advocacy for feminist causes has driven her to act as an escort at an abortion clinic—said: “It isn’t ‘faith and freedom’ when reproductive autonomy isn’t extended by the Catholic Church to women.”

"Escort at an abortion clinic" should be all that is needed to be said.

What does it take to excommunicated nowadays? How much damage are these no-longer-habited malcontents going to be allowed to accomplish before someone says "enough"?!?

Faith and freedom? The faith proclaims the disposition of love and the openness to life within the context of sacramental marriage as the only virtuous way to conduct the conjugal embrace. Autonomy from God by dissent from the clear moral teachings of the Church takes one down the road to slavery, not freedom.

By the way, what are 'leftist' nuns. I thought nuns served God within His church - that they followed His Word - not some secular agenda.

'an escort at an abortion clinic' How can any human being work for the brutal death (including dismemberment while alive) of any other human being - especially an innocent and defenseless child. May this year's Good Friday and Easter Resurrection call all these women back to our Lord's holy reverence for the sanctity of each human life which is made in His likeness. Pray they will not take away any other human being's life with support for contraception and abortion.

There is a typo in your headline. I think you meant to say: Leftist NUTS' group opposes challenges to HHS mandate.
